"A PROJECT OF RESORT AND AQUARIUM" -Academic Project-

INTRODUCTION:

The project of resort and aquarium, in AL-Mhannawiya island near the city of Hillah, is a tourism, residential and entertaining project which provide services for local and foreign tourists who would visit Ancient Babylon and the holy shrines in Karbala and Najaf in addition to the locales and VIP visitors.

LOCATION:

AL-Mhannawiya resort lies to the north of the governorate of Babylon across the river bank of Shatt AL-Hillah and to the south of the capital, Baghdad. It is about (2125000 m2) of natural green area with different kinds of plants.

It is considered to be the first large tourist project that would be built in the governorate. It is also an outlet to the people of Babylon and its neighbors, such as Baghdad, Karbala and Najaf.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

1. TOURISM:

The project being in the governorate of Babylon would provide an outlet to the people who lacking entertaining areas in addition to the tourists flocking to the city.

2. ECONOMY:

The project supports local, regional and national economy. Also, it would be a point of attraction to the tourists because of its location near the ancient city of Babylon and the holy shrine sites in Karbala and Najaf.

3. SOCIAL AND CULTURAL TARGETS:

The Project lies in an aggregation area for many different sectors of society. It spots lights on the oldest civilization and religions remnants.

4. HERITAGE AND ANTIQUITIES:

It is considered to be a real chance to develop individual hobbies and to improve hand-crafts industry.

TARGETS:

1. Create a distinct landmark to define Iraqi civilization.

2. Create tourist landmark in the country through the use of new modern forms which complaint with the site.

3. Revive the region which was relatively neglected presently.

4. Exploit the natural elements of site to serve the social economy and fleshed it for tourist aims.

5. Provide suitable environment to comfort, relaxation and change the rhythm of life.

6. Enjoyment with breathtaking views and feels with tourist environment and rural environment in a modern style.

7. Bring a new activities to the governorate (cultural, economic, tourist and entertaining).

8. Social interaction for local communities.

9. Create an attractive place to reduce the crowed in the city.

10. Refresh tourist and entertainment in the governorate and create an outlet for people.

11. The project is a big work center, especially it may attract mass capitals.

12. It would provide hundreds of jobs in different fields of work.

THE CONCEPT:

In a messy world everywhere around, it is difficult for human beings to have their own free-will. Instead, it seems that freedom could be easily lost. Without being contained or framed by limits, restrictions and constrains, one would never feel or capture his central ubiquity.

The determinates of the site and the nature of The Aquarium Project can express themselves forcefully in this kind of Resort Island Project. From one side, the site (as an island) imposes itself as a spatial limitation specified and fixed in a changeable stream river. In the other side, the nature of The Resort Project and The Natural Reservation Zone can strongly reveal themselves as outlets to lunch and liberate.

This paradox does not mean contradiction. It is a contrast duality between freedom and constrains which emphasize that each of them cannot be recognized without the other opposite one. This mutual relationship tends to manage changes and differences in norms, values and thoughts which is reflected in the architectural concept by shifting morphology toward endless continuity of related details which are manifested clearly in plans and elevations.

Net and fish which are deeply inherited from The Sumerian are used as Iconic design motifs with the enclosure, hierarchy and irregularity principles of design.
